So I'm like the most ignorant person when it comes to music. I never ever remember the names of bands and singers. This is mostly because I'm, well, not interested. I appreciate a good song (soft rock, no screaming, yelling or- God forbid- rap and heavy metal. I get a headache just saying their name!). But I can't be bothered to actually keep track of all the new albums and songs. I would love to have a collection of all the songs I love and have access to them whenever I want. Wouldn't that be sweet? Oh well.
Yesterday I was surfing some blogs and I heard one of Cat Stevens' (now Yusuf Islam) oldies- and that was it. I am obssessed. It's EXACTLY the type of music I love. Soft with lyrics that gets you thinking.. And don't get me started on the guitar.....
So for the last 24 hours all I've been doing is listening to Cat Stevens' oldies and his recently released album "An Other Cup" (after a 30 year break) on YouTube.com.
Just now I was listening to the song "If you wanna sing out, sing out" (obviously, he hasn't heard me sing!)- It's beautiful.
And I'm in love! (not only with the music:P)
AND he's Muslim! (None of the hollywood stars are- I checked:P)
Like my MSN nickname clearly states, if only if only he wasn't 60 years old and with 5 kids... Ugh...
Oh- that and if he knew I existed of course:P

Have you seen the movie Harold and Maude? (Then-)Cat Stevens did all the music for that movie, and I loved it so much in that context. It's a really weird, funny, dark, beautiful story. If you haven't seen it, you have to! My absolute favorite song from the movie was that one, "If you want to sing out, sing out. . ." I should really listen to more of his music besides that movie soundtrack, and I will now that you mention it.
Also, check out www.pandora.com.
"if you want to be free be free.. cuz there's a million thing to be.. there's a million ways to go"
It's officially now my favorite song! It's amazing, isn't it?
Yep, Nancy, you should definitely listen more to his songs:) I actually haven't seen the movie, but will make it a point to. It sounds wonderful:)
Oh and thanks for the link, it's great!:)
Hello there!
I'ts my first time to post a comment, im so new to all this blogging thingy. Whatever.
It feels so funny to see another obsessed fan of Yusuf Islam! I once hugged the tv screen when i saw him in one of his Islamic concerts (i guess im being too frank!) I can really say it without shame nor regret, I love this man!
He's really such a great man. Allah had blessed him with so many things. I always wished i would get a chance of seeing him or thanking him for everything he's done!
btw, have you heard the sample of his new song Heaven-Where true Love Goes?
IT'S UNBELIEVABLE!
The thing that i like most to brag about is that i share the same birthday with Yusuf Islam!! 21st of July. He's exactly 40 yrs older than me!
Much love sis. Sorry I seem to have disappeared. Hey, you might want to check out a documentary on Yusuf Islam "His Life and Conversion". Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Yusuf+Islam+aka+Cat+Stevens-His+Life+And+Conversion+
Ivory!
Welcome to my blog:)
Oh darn, so now it's two obssessed girls vying for Yusuf's affection! His wife will not be too happy;p hehehehe
Hugged the T.v.? for real? LOOOL you are hilarious!!!
I must say, I never did that, but I can totally picture myself doing it;)
Oh and I was checking your profile, you read "Purification of the Heart" as well? it's an amazing book isn't it? I would totally be happy marrying Hamza Yusuf as well. He's something else!:)
Anything to do with Yusuf's, I'm in:) hehe
Yep, I heard Heaven/where true love goes. It is absolutely beautiful...:)
Looks like we have a lot in common!:)
Oh and as for the Birthday- I'm afraid I can't outdo that! *sniff sniff* (maybe me and him use the same brand of toothpaste?:P hehe)
Sis, welcome back! You've been terribly missed (ie. my blog's been deserted!)
Don't you EVER go missing again, or I'll have to find me a "backup sis"- I can't go on without a sis 24/7, have a heart;P
I miss you tons and tons. Lets talk soon:)
Oh Ivory,
I wanted to comment on your blog, but I couldn't find the option?
Is your comment-blocking premeditated or by mistake?:)
Please do allow comments, I like to talk, and it troubles me when I'm not allowed to;P
Dude! toothpaste?! :D
and believe it or not, Im so into Yusuf's as well! but i never consider marrying them, just enjoy their company (yea, im innocent even though i hugged the tv) :P
and Yes, i read Purification of The Heart! well not the whole book, i don't have my own copy yet :'(
i borrowed the book, and couldn't finish it coz my pal needed it back... *sniff sniff*
and umm.. i guess i allowed comments someway somehow, please try again and let me know..
actually i find it a little bit difficult to manage my blog than i thought it would be!
Oh so it was a completely "innocent" T.v. hug? Very well I'll believe you:)
But I still think it's hilariously cute!!
So about the comments, nope, still not working!
Here's what you have to do:
Go to "Manage posts", then choose to "Edit" your last post. Then when that page opens, at the very bottom you'll find the words "Post options", press that. You'll then get to choose the "allow/don't allow" comments:)
Then go to "Settings", then "comments" and customize your options (including "who can comment"- I suggest you choose "anyone").
It's a bit confusing at the beginning (I still have no idea what I'm doing half the time- but keep on experimenting anyway till something works!;) hehe You'll get the hang of it soon!
As for purification of the heart, I have a copy, you're more than welcome to borrow mine if you like:)
OH and YES, TOOTHPASTE! what's wrong with that? Your choice of a toothpaste brand says a lot about you- are you underestimating that girl?:P hehehe
(very well then, would it be better if I told you I know for a fact that we both have a pair of rainbow-colored striped socks?)
Hm. I didn't think so!
LOL
LOL! U know whats his socks like!!
and abt the book, thanks a lot :) but i might get a copy soon.. insha'allah.. i guess.. :P
and i checked this comment thingy, yep it was already "Allowed" and "Anyone" can comment on my posts..
Hmmm.. it would be pretty sad not to have any comments at all.. :P
But thanks a lot for the tips! :)
